Brand new genuine European Weber 38DGMS carb.
DGMS
= Manual choke option.
Fitted with generic (Ford Escort & Capri style) throttle linkage.
We keep the DGMS carbs in stock, however we can order the DGAS and DGES choke versions in with short delivery times.
They are often used on worked 2 litre Ford pinto engines (Cortina, Capri and Escort) and max out at about 170hp@flywheel on non turbo engines.
Also suitable for blow through turbo setup, these are the carbs that we modify for use in our blow through turbo setups available on our websites. We have had a customer use one of our repro 38DGES carbs (same flow as these Weber 38DGMS carbs) in a blow through turbo setup making 240hp@wheels on a Nissan TB42 engine.

The 38 DGMS is the big brother to the smaller Weber DGV 32/36 series and is the “High Performance” option for carby conversions. It shares the same base mounting flange, and almost identical top cover shape for air cleaner fitment, as well as the majority of tuning parts such as jets, valves, etc. However the 38 DGMS incorporates a pair of 38mm butterflies, and 27mm main venturis. This allows the 38 DGMS to flow more air than the 32/36 carb, and therefore is more suited to highly modified 4 cylinders around 2 litres and larger in capacity, right up to 3-4 litre 6 cylinder engines. They are a popular choice for Holden sixes and Falcon 200ci and 250ci sixes.
The
butterflies on the 38 DGMS are synchronous, that is they both open together at
the same time. This allows for improved throttle response and engine
acceleration.
This 38DGMS is a manual choke optioned carb. The choke increases cold idle speed and richens the air fuel mixtures until the engine warms up. However the choke is very easily removed and we usually do this on any performance application as
it slightly improves air flow and power production, whilst still retaining the high idle feature of the choke if required.This
style of carby is factory fitted to Ford Capri 3.0litre V6 engines, and is a
proven performance upgrade for 1.8 and 2.0 litre Escort and Cortina engines
which had 32/36 carbys fitted as standard.
They’re also a fantastic performance upgrade for Holden Gemini, which we have used extensively, Mitsubishi Sigma & Scorpion, Toyota Corolla, Hilux & Celica, to name a few. Also commonly fitted to larger 6 cylinder engines, we have seen them on both Nissan Patrol and Land Cruiser, they powered the 4 litre engines and provided heaps of grunt with crisp acceleration.
As mentioned above, have had a customer make 240hp@wheels with a blow through setup on a TB42 4.2 litre engine.
Have
also seen them working well on Holden 6 cylinder 202ci, and are a good carb
replacement on Ford 250ci cross flow engines, as they have similar airflow to
the standard Weber 34ADM carbys as fitted to XE and XF Falcons, and bolt up to
the stock inlet manifold. Adaptor
plates are available to bolt the carby to all of these other engines
to make the carby a bolt on swap.
Weber 32/36 carbys are known to provide enough air flow for about 150hp at the flywheel on worked 4cyl engines, however this 38 carb is larger and would be good for more like 170hp on a naturally aspirated engine.
The
throttle shaft is threaded and other standard throttle linkages easily bolt
up. Currently
fitted with Ford Escort/Cortina pinto type linkage to suit various models.
Weber
DGV and DGS carbs have the same mounting stud pattern as the majority of this style
Weber twin barrel downdraught carbs do, and we have adaptor plates available for
$50-$90 depending on application.

We keep the DGMS manual choke carbs in stock as they are a cheaper base carb to use for a blow through turbo setup where we usually completely remove the choke anyway, however we can also supply DGES electric choke and DGAS water choke carbs with short delivery times.

Purchase price includes basic re-jet to suit your application! Change of auxiliary venturi size or emulsion tubes is an additional cost.
As with any carb swap, we can only take an educated guess at the jet sizes your engine will need, so even though the carbs should run quite well out of the box, once fitted to your engine, fine tuning will be needed to optimise power and economy. We can also supply optional jetting packs of 4 x jets for $20 (either mains, air correctors or idle jets), so you can have the jets handy when you do your fine tuning.
